CHARIOT: Colchester Community Bus ServiceChariot was founded in 1972 when the King Coel's Kittens presented Colchester with the first Community Bus. This minibus hire service was designed for the use and benefit of the voluntary organisations based in the Colchester area. Chariot has now grown to the point of having three such vehicles in use. A small band of dedicated volunteer drivers regularly convey people to lunch clubs, friendship clubs and on regular shopping trips. - Chariot have three minibuses for hire to residents of the Colchester borough.
- All the minibuses are specially adapted and wheelchair accessible.
- Voluntary organisations for the disabled and impaired are given priority although able bodied groups are not excluded.
Charges 60p per mile all-inclusive, and a set charge of £35 per hire. For example at current rates, a special day out to Clacton-On- Sea from Colchester would cost approximately £54.20 (32 miles times 60p plus set charge of £35) plus cost of any additional mileage. Volunteers Needed Volunteers drivers are always welcome. All drivers must have an assessment of their driving skills and be aged between 25 and 70 years with a current full driving licence free of endorsements.
