Shopmobility| Colchester Shopmobility is a town centre based scheme that provides hand propelled and electric wheelchairs and electric scooters to help people with limited mobility - through permanent or temporary disablement, illness, accident or age - to shop and independently enjoy the facilities in the town centre. You do not have to be registered disabled to take advantage of the scheme and the service is open to both young and old alike. Located in the town centre, we provide the difference between being housebound due to mobility problems and gaining the freedom of choice to go where you wish for a few hours a day. |

Families enjoy the chance to shop together. We have a member who has, until the recent closure of the Records Office, been researching her family tree. Other members enjoy visiting the Castle Park. Members can attend their social clubs, dental and hair appointments or simply visit the bank.
We are open from Tuesday to Thursday, 10.00 am to 4.00 pm but you must register as a member of Shopmobility before using any of the equipment. To become a member, you will need to book your first visit in advance. You will be asked to complete a registration form and produce two pieces of identification with your name and current address. This may be a utility bill or a driver's licence. On completion you will be issued with a membership card. Before you leave Shopmobility with your equipment a member of staff will show you how it works and spend time with you practising until you are confident and comfortable. Then away you go!

Membership Fees and Charges
The annual membership fee is £15.00.
A day membership fee is £5.00
Charge for use of equipment is:
1 session - £2.50
2 sessions - £4.00
Sessions are 10am - 1 pm and 1pm - 4pm Donations would be appreciated. Long term hire of electric scooters
We can now offer overnight, weekend and one or two weeks hire of the portable electric scooters. They can be taken apart and easily fitted into the boot of a car.
Why not take advantage of this new service and have more freedom whilst travelling.
We are the only provider in the Colchester area to offer this service. Overnight hire £7.00
Weekend hire £15.00
One weeks hire £30.00
Two weeks hire £50.00
A deposit of £250.00 is required (Returnable cheque) Parking and car parks
We have limited spaces, so we always ask people to book in advance before they visit the scheme. Members parking bays are situated inside St. Mary's Car Park - Balkerne Hill (blue bays on level 3). Please note that transport bringing people into Shopmobility will be allowed to set down their passengers in front of the Shopmobility office in Manor Road, not inside St. Mary's Car Park.
